Check engine light
September 15th, 2007 by adminWhen your check engine light comes on it usually means that it’s time to service your car’s engine. But this is not always the case, today I learned something new about our emissions on our vehicles. We all know that we are supposed to turn the engine off when we get ready to re-fuel the vehicle. Well on some of our cars if you leave the engine running and put the fuel in the vehicle and when you put the cap back on the tank, after a few miles down the road the engine light will come on.
So we are off to the dealer to see whats wrong. Now I am not saying that all dealers are a little on the dishonest side, put when you need a new plugs and filters replaced to turn that stupid little light off, when all you needed to do was shut the engine off and take the gas tank cap off and put it back on, so the light go out. You’ve spent 50-60 bucks to still not know the truth. What do you do, go and buy your own OBD II code scanner. You can get them for about 30.00 to a few hundred dollars and turn the light off yourself. However if you do have a real problem with your engine, then you need to take it to your mechanic and get the problem resolved.
