Dodge Forum

November 3rd, 2007 by admin

If you have a Dodge or most any make of vehicle, you can find forums where people talk about their vehicles and the problems they have with them and usually find someone else who has had the same problem and what it takes to fix the problem. I know by going to the forums has already saved me about 1500.00 dollars that the dealers wanted for problems that were nothing more that reseting the computer. If you have any kind of vehicle trouble look it up on the net first and it may be a simple thing you can fix your self.

OBD II (a)

November 2nd, 2007 by admin

The OBD diagnostics plug in vehicles made in 1996 and later, have a plug in under the dash on the drivers side that will tell you of any problems with your vehicle. I bought one just to have on hand in case of one of my vehicles having a problem, I wanted to know what the problem would be. After purchasing the code reader I have had to use it 2 times. I guess my intuition told me to go ahead and buy a code reader. It has already paid for itself.

OBD II

October 28th, 2007 by admin

If you own a vehicle made in 1997 and up to present day, there is a plug under the dash on the drivers side that is a diagnostic port, that mechanics plug their code reader to find out the problem with a vehicle. You know what I am talking about if your Check Engine light comes on and you go to the dealer for them to connect to your port and tell you what is wrong with your vehicle, then they hand you a bill for 50-100 dollars. You can buy these scanners for 29-500.00 dollars. I bought one for 79.99 and thought that if I ever needed it I would have it. Well after owning it for 3 weeks it came in handy. My van check engine light came on, and it gave me a code number and a description as to what was wrong.

It said Evap emission control system leak very small. Well this sounded terrible to me, so I got on the web and searched for Generic OBD II codes. Come to find out that my gas tank lid was not closed all the way. It has to be turned until it clicks. The dealer ships want you to bring it to them so they can do a proper diagnostics on the vehicle, for 80.00 dollars.

The way I see it is I have already paid the dealership for this information and from here on its a free service that I can do myself, and tell a mechanic what I need done to my car. I RESET MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TIGHTENED MY GAS CAP AND NOW I AM READY FOR THE NEXT BOUT WITH MODERN TECHNOLOGY.

Paint kit is Awesome

October 13th, 2007 by admin

I purchase a kit of the Mystic paint, you know the one where you see a car going down the road and it starts changing colors at different angles when the sun hits it. Nascar superstar Jeff Gordon has been running this paint on his #24 car for several years now. When it was first developed when you bought the paint to paint a car with, a representative from the company would come to the paint shop and give the painter the first coat to spay with, if any was left over the rep would put it in a can and then give the painter the second coat. Same as the first ,any left over the rep put it away and gave the painter the 3rd coat, and like the two before he would put it in a can and take it all with him back to the factory.

It has been told that a 14 year old boy developed this particular paint and Dupont bought the license rights and the patent. Did you know that some of the auto paint today has crushed glass in it. All different kind of effects are going on in the auto paint industry today. The paint job i did on the Go-Kart today turned out fabulous, my nephew and niece will be surprised when the see it and take it for a spin around the block My kit turns from Brown to Green to Blue, and it Rocks!!

Trading cars

October 6th, 2007 by admin

Don’t you just hate when you’re tired of the car you have been driving for a while , so you go to trade to get another car that sparks some interest in you so it comes to negotiating a price for the car you want to buy and the car you want to trade.Rule of thumb is never discuss trade in until you get a firm price on the car you want to buy, then you bring the trade in to the table. Slick sales men will re do and re arrange all kinds of ways to t6he price so as to give you as little as possible for your trade. Thats why you get a firm price on the car first, then talk trade.

Also watch for sneaky salesmen who want to know how much you can afford each month. If they ask you this, get up and walk away, you are about to get scammed out of a lot of money. Car sales men are like politicians, they will tell you anything to get the deal. Do your homework and go tot places like Edmunds.com and find the real value of your car. The dealers don’t like to use Edmunds they use the Nada which has higher Values of the vehicles. But at Edmunds you can get the real value of the car you want and the one to trade. Also don’t forget to get the Car fax report on the car you want. This will give you the history of the car.

I need storage

October 4th, 2007 by admin

I really do need some storage for my garage, I have things stacked and stacked in all kinds of boxes that don’t do the job. A lot of the stuff is collectibles. If I had the proper storage bins, then I would not have to worry about my stuff. I could use about 10 of the double door storage bins they offer, I could line one wall with them and everything would be nice and tidy the way it ought to be. I guess I will have to save up a little money and do it right if I am ever going to be happy with my garage again. Thanks Car Guy Garage for the solution to my problem.

My Garage

October 1st, 2007 by admin

My garage is in such a turmoil that I don’t hardly know where to start. A couple of days ago I started to clean this highly disorganized place up, only to find that I was just shifting the mess from one part to another. If I had two of the 16 piece metal cabinets I think I could finally get it right. Car Guy Garage has exactly what I have been looking for, and I will save a little money and order these cabinets from these guy’s. Poor planning on my part is the reason that my garage is in the shape it is in now. I failed to put cabinets in. Now I am going to have to remove everything from my garage to put in the cabinets, put down floor covering and then organize everything back in the garage. But once I do all this, my garage nightmares will end. Please don’t do like I did and not plan out your garage, put those cabinets in and have plenty of storage so your garage will be what you want it to be, Effective and uncluttered. Car Guy Garage will solve your problem.

Whats in your Garage

October 1st, 2007 by admin

I was out in my garage a couple of days ago to do much needed cleaning. After moving a few things around I realized that some body had sneaked into my garage and poured a concrete floor in there. Then I remembered oh yeah, I did that when I built my garage. What a mess I had, does this sound familiar to you? Well let me tell you It looks like that I need garage storage that is organized the way it should be. I am going to have to order some of this great garage stuff so I don’t get so frustrated at myself for letting it get in such a mess. I love the floor covering they offer, as matter of fact I see a use for everything they offer in my garage. I guess I will have to start a Garage makeover fund. Poor planning on my part when I built my garage is why I have the mess I have now. I will be doing business with these guys. If you are just now building your garage, don’t make my mistake and not plan for a workable garage.

Feeling English

September 26th, 2007 by admin

Today I got a feel of the English and their ways of driving. I have a buddy that works for the U S Postal Service, and he has a Dodge Caravan that has the steering on the right side of the vehicle. To begin with it he had me to follow him to get a car repair and I followed in the van, it was way strange to begin with and after a short while I became more comfortable with driving on the right side. I am not saying that I mastered the reverse seating while driving, but I think I did alright. If I had a little scarf and a little hat, You could have called me a bloat. No pun intended, I love all people!!

Jay Leno

September 19th, 2007 by admin

For all of you in the know, Jay Leno is a Car Guy like myself, the only difference between he and I is, He’s Got Money, and lots of it. His desire for old cars is no better than mine. I guess most of you know by now that Diamler/Chrysler will be making a remake of the old 1970 Dodge Challenger. If any of you out in cyberland have had the privilege of riding in one of these Land Rockets, you know what I am talking about, especially if it had a 426 Hemi in it. Dodge offered 6 engines in the Challenger that year and less than 400 were only equipped with a Hemi. Dodge rated the Hemi at 425 Horsepower but the real Horsepower was more like 500, they were rated this way for consumer insurance reasons, a little cheaper premiums for the consumer.

Check engine light

September 15th, 2007 by admin

When your check engine light comes on it usually means that it’s time to service your car’s engine. But this is not always the case, today I learned something new about our emissions on our vehicles. We all know that we are supposed to turn the engine off when we get ready to re-fuel the vehicle. Well on some of our cars if you leave the engine running and put the fuel in the vehicle and when you put the cap back on the tank, after a few miles down the road the engine light will come on.

So we are off to the dealer to see whats wrong. Now I am not saying that all dealers are a little on the dishonest side, put when you need a new plugs and filters replaced to turn that stupid little light off, when all you needed to do was shut the engine off and take the gas tank cap off and put it back on, so the light go out. You’ve spent 50-60 bucks to still not know the truth. What do you do, go and buy your own OBD II code scanner. You can get them for about 30.00 to a few hundred dollars and turn the light off yourself. However if you do have a real problem with your engine, then you need to take it to your mechanic and get the problem resolved.
