Matt Maupin

31 March, 08:40, by admin

This is a story sent to me by a fellow blogger that, and I am passing it on to you. God Bless America and this family

DNA analysis has confirmed that human remains found in an unspecified region of Iraq are those of missing Army Staff Sergeant Matt Maupin.

In a Sunday evening press conference, Staff Sergeant Maupin’s parents Keith and Carolyn said they were told of the news around around 1 p.m. Sunday.

“My heart sinks, but I know they can’t hurt him anymore,” Keith Maupin said.

Lt. Lee Packnett, an Army public affairs officer in Washington, confirmed that the Maupins were notified Sunday that their son’s remains had been identified. Packnett said an official statement about the identification would be released Monday.

“It hurts, it hurts,” Carolyn Maupin said outside the Yellow Ribbon Support Center in Union Township. “After you go through almost four years of hope, and then this is what happens, it’s like a let down,” Maupin continued.

20-year-old Maupin was captured on April 9, 2004 when his fuel convoy, part of the 724th Transportation Company, came under attack near the Baghdad International Airport. A week later, the Arab television network Al-Jazeera aired a videotape showing Maupin sitting on the floor surrounded by five masked men holding automatic rifles. On June 28, a video purporting to show his execution was released, but Army officials said the quality was so poor that it could not be verified.

Keith and Carolyn refused to believe it was their son, and the Army had listed him as missing-captured. The Maupins lobbied hard for the Army to continue listing their son as missing-captured, fearing that another designation would undermine efforts to find him.

Keith Maupin said the Army told him early on that there was only a 50 percent chance his son would be found alive. He said he doesn’t hold the Army responsible for his son’s death, but that he did hold the Army responsible for bringing his son home.

“I told them when we’d go up to the Pentagon, whether he walks off a plane or is carried off, you’re not going to leave him in Iraq like you did those guys in Vietnam,” Keith Maupin said.

Vigils were held throughout the Tri-State after Maupin went missing, and yellow ribbons went up immediately. For three years and eleven months, Maupin has been listed as missing.

Maupin was a 2001 graduate of Glen Este High School in Union Township and played on the football team. He then attended the University of Cincinnati for a year before joining the Army Reserves.

Dan Simmons, the athletic director at Glen Este, remembered Maupin as a quiet but hardworking backup player on the school’s football team.

“Matt was a selfless kid on the football field,” Simmons said. “He did whatever the coaches told him. He wasn’t a starter, but he made the other kids play harder.”

A month after his capture, Maupin was promoted to the rank of specialist. In April 2005, Maupin was promoted to sergeant.

When Carolyn Maupin was asked what the community could do to help her family during this time, she replied, “[Just] stay by our side and support us, that would be great.”

An 8:30 p.m. candlelight vigil was held at the Yellow Ribbon Support Center, which is located on South Eastgate Boulevard in Batavia.

Two U.S. soldiers remain missing in action in Iraq. Ahmed Qusai al-Taayie, a 41-year-old Iraqi-born reserve soldier from Ann Arbor, Mich., was abducted while visiting his Iraqi wife on Oct. 23, 2007, in Baghdad. Capt. Michael Speicher, a Navy pilot, has been missing since the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

Red or White

28 March, 04:09, by admin

Good wine is an acquired taste, The red always seems to be more potent than the white, but thats just my opinion. People cherish their wine and their tasting abilities, they can tell the fruitiness, smokiness, and all other information just by swishing it around in their mouth.

When at home they need their own wine racks, so the wine is tilted just right so it ferments correctly for maximum taste. At The Wine Rack Store, you can get just the one that suite your taste, and moderately priced. The wine accessories you need, its available for you to incorporate in your collection.

Fuel for Thought

28 March, 03:59, by admin

Good food feeds the brain and fossil fuel feeds the transportation systems in our country, our personal vehicles are gas dependent. We get this gas from crude oil mainly from the middle east. Saudi Arabia has the largest oil field in the world and it concerns me that the well is over half empty. They are already pumping in 7 million gallons of sea water into the wells so the pumps can get it easily. This sounds like Fuel for Thought. Research it!

Traveling?

28 March, 03:45, by admin

We all like to travel and see the sights never before seen by the family so we get everything in order, we researched the place and found a good deal, the bags are packed and head count is right, to the airport we go to have that dream getaway. You arrive in Cancun Mexico and all is great, the atmosphere, the people, the drinks and food.

You get back to your villa and your side has started hurting really bad. It is so bad you have to seek medical attention. You have a case of Appendicitis and need surgery. Your insurance is no good South of The Border, you have to leave your dream vacation and get back to the states to get the surgery. Your vacation is ruined.

Your spouse says, don’t worry honey I got travel insurance, it will pay for our inconvenience, I even got medical insurance that will pay for the surgery, we don’t have to leave. You go right on down to the hospital and get that taken care of and we will be right here thinking of you. After you are released come on back here and we will enjoy ourselves.

Thats a smart spouse

Hey Hey Hey, it’s Springtime

28 March, 03:23, by admin

It’s officially springtime in Ga, today we hit 73 degrees and tomorrow 74. I love the spring, every thing starts to come to life and get green, you get a little extra spring in your step, you want to get out in the yard and get it ready for the beautiful weather that is upon us. Spring cleaning is always a plus, you get the house all clean from the winter that keeps you in most times.

Time to plant flowers and get the yard up to par and get the curb appeal going on. Don’t go looking at new cars in the spring just for the looking, or otherwise you will probably have a new car you didn’t even need. It’s in the air, it’s everywhere, It’s Springtime!!

If you have clean hands and you have to be in contact with people or public access to the many things in life we encounter then you know the importance of clean hands, to keep from germs spreading. At DME you can get disposable gloves at prices you will like. DME carries latex, vinyl, nitrile powder free gloves for your sanitation. I personally use nitrile gloves for all kinds of applications.

I use them when I am building furniture and putting the finish coat on. Working on lawn equipment, automobiles, go karts, most any mechanic work.Oil changes are no longer messy. All these gloves are great for Doctors, Dentist, Veterinarian, and all do it yourself people. Oil changes are no longer messy.

Easter

24 March, 02:14, by admin

The resurrection of Jesus is celebrated on this day with Rabbits laying eggs in peoples yards and children running all over the yard to find them and hope they can find the Prize Egg, which entitles them to a big hunk of chocolate in the form of a bunny or an egg or some other contorted ideal of a fictional character, for the prize. I still can’t figure how this comes into the celebration for the rising of Jesus from the tomb where he was laid to rest.

Maybe I am not supposed to understand this phenom that has had a hold on our country for generations. As A parent, sure, I used to participate in the hiding of the eggs for the children. But today I saw a new twist on the old tradition, There were adults hunting eggs and no children there to hunt. there were 4 $5.00 eggs and 2 with half a dollar of change in them. Whats Next!

Rehab Yes Yes Yes

24 March, 01:58, by admin

We all have people in our lives that need rehab for alcoholism or drug abuse, it is truly a sad part of our culture today, it does not discriminate from young and old or black and white or rich and poor. Alcohol rehab and drug rehab are two different programs that have different approaches, but many of the centers today treat them alike. In the California area there is a premier facility that understands the difference of the two, at Sunset Malibu alcohol rehabs are geared for the recovery and the sobriety for the patient and the family.

Learning to live with and how to remove the pain from the hurt that everybody close endures from the disease. Detox is not a pretty sight, but there are only two choices, to live or to die, and thats it. Continue drinking and you die, staying sober and you live. An easy choice to make ,but a hard one to commit to and keep. Save yourself and your loved ones.

Rehab

24 March, 01:58, by admin

I have a very close relative that I would love to see take rehab seriously, but they think that they are smarter than the instructors and that may be so with the exception that they are sober. My relative is a very smart person and has lost everything that they worked for all their life for because of alcoholism. They lost their spouse the home and the children are hardly in their life and it is so sad to see the damage that has been done to the whole family.

Alcoholism has no prejudice in its network, it cares not if you are black, white, green, or purple. Rich, poor or just middle America type it gets its hold and its hard to shake. It was banned from the Indians, why can’t it be banned from everyone. I cannot think of one good thing that has come from Alcoholism ,if any one has please share it with me.

Buying Gas

19 March, 03:59, by admin

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS I don’t know what you guys are paying for gasoline…. But here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money’s worth for every gallon. Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose, CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of16,800,000 gallons. Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening….your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperat ure compensation at the pumps.

When you’re filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3)stages: low, middle, and high. You should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you’re getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount. Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up–most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.

DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS! WHERE TO BUY USA GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON Gas rationing in the 80′s worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don’t import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil: Shell…………………….. 205,742,000 barrels Chevron/Texaco……… 144,332,000 barrels Exxon /Mobil…………… 130,082,000 barrels Marathon/Speedway… 117,740,000 barrels Amoco………………………62,231,000 barrels Citgo gas is from South America, from a Dictator who hates Americans. If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION!(Oil is now $90 – $100 a barrel) Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil: Sunoco………………0 barrels Conoco………………0 barrels Sinclair…………….0 barrels B P/Phillips…………0 barrels Hess………………….0 barrels ARC0………………..0 barrels If you go to Sunoco.com , you will get a list ofthe station locations near you. All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas Buyers. It’s really simple to do. Now, don’t wimp out at this point… . Keep reading and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I’m sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)…and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) .. and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers !!!!!!! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it …. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Tornados hit Atlanta

17 March, 20:51, by admin

A series of thunderstorms with some producing tornado activity came to town on Saturday in the downtown area of Atlanta, part of the Georgia Dome was ripped from the roof and there were windows blown out and all kind of debris in the streets. Patrons at the Omni Hotel had their luggage blown out in to the street. Tornado’s touched down in Polk county and Killing 1 lady. Its quite unusual for a tornado to hit a major city in the downtown areas and causing so much extensive damage.
